Ein Tag Wie Gold - Hourglass Ensemble

Utzon Room, Sydney Opera House, Macquarie St, Sydney, NSW

Sassy, glitzy, seductive - German dance hall and cabaret The 1920s and 30s – a legendary scene of jazz, dance, scandal, and silliness! – all with the tension of a Europe about to shatter. Hourglass brings back Tim Hansen’s hit operetta “The Sharpest Piece” in a bold new interpretation. Belittled and controlled every day in a repressive marriage, a housewife believing herself made of glass fears the slightest wrong move will literally CRACK her into thousands of shards. How she smashes a path to freedom is at once poignant and witty, somber and ridiculous. Sydney-based international chamber music stars Hourglass Ensemble channel the notoriously camp Palast Orchester, performing German cabaret classics by Weill, Raabe, and Wolf, and new Australian music by Marcellino and Skipworth, always mixing it all together with a pinch of gravitas and a bag of fun!
